For the Invention and Progress awards, projects must have been implemented and applied for at least one year and must have passed an appraisal or acceptance check by municipal-level government departments or CNTAC since 2020. This means companies that started projects in 2024 must complete official acceptance by July 2025, a tight timeline.
The Natural Science Award requires that main papers or monographs have been published in official journals for more than two years, with their scientific conclusions positively cited by peers at major international conferences or in academic publications. This demands that prior results have undergone peer review, not just lab data.
Notably, classified projects are not accepted, which excludes some defense or proprietary technology areas but ensures transparency in the review process.
Application Process and Key Deadlines
The application process combines online submission with hard copy delivery. Applicants must register and fill out forms on the CNTAC Science and Technology Development Department website under the "I want to apply" section. The online submission deadline is July 4, 2025, at 17:00, while hard copies must arrive at CNTAC's Beijing address by July 15, 2025, at 17:00.
The 11-day gap between the two deadlines means companies must print and bind immediately after online submission to avoid missing the hard copy deadline. Only one original hard copy is required, and it will not be returned, so applicants should keep backups.
Application forms must be objective, truthful, accurate, and complete. All attachments should be bound together with the application form, using the form's first page as the cover without any additional covers. This formal requirement is a hard constraint; many projects have been rejected in previous years for non-compliance.
Impact on the Industry Chain
The driving force behind the awards comes from the Textile Light Science and Education Foundation. While the prize money is modest, the honor certificate provides significant industry endorsement. Companies that win CNTAC science awards often gain advantages in applying for national projects, participating in standard setting, and securing government procurement orders.
For companies in sectors like chemical fibers, fabrics, and apparel, the application process itself serves as a technology review and competitiveness check. Projects with independent intellectual property, significant process improvements, and notable energy-saving and emission-reduction effects are more likely to stand out. This, in turn, pushes companies to shift R&D investment from "following" to "leading."
